Mission Statement
The mission of the Nauvoo Public Library is to provide materials and services for community residents of all ages for personal enrichment, enjoyment and educational needs. The library is dedicated to providing practical access to all forms of media. Programs will be developed to stimulate children’s interest and appreciation for reading and learning.

Wizard of Oz
Join the Nauvoo Public Library on October 7th at 2:30 PM at Grandpa John's Theatre for a FREE showing of Wizard of Oz, rated G. Free popcorn and soda provided as well. Stay afterwards for the Scarecrow Festival's annual Spooktacular Soup Sampling! NASA in Nauvoo- Cosmic Chills: Vampire Stars, Black Widow Pulsars and Dark Energy October 21, 2023, time: 2-3pm at Nauvoo City Hall Technology Solar System Ambassador In this month’s special Halloween edition of “NASA in Nauvoo” we will hear about some of the most terrifying objects in space: Vampire Stars! Learn of the vampiric binary systems where two stars are close together, and one star may “suck” the atmosphere of another. Black Widow Pulsars! The Fermi Gamma-ray space telescope unveiled a host of “Black Widow” pulsars destroying their companions. Dark Energy! A phenomenon accelerating the expansion of spacetime without substantial explanation. This free (for all ages!) public event is hosted by the Nauvoo Public Library and will be held October 21st from 2-3pm at the Nauvoo City Hall. The event will be co-hosted by Mellissa Smith, our local NASA/JPL California Institute of Technology Solar System Ambassador, and will include information and photos of these amazing cosmic chills, a short question and answer period, and a fun activity! “NASA in Nauvoo” is a monthly program hosted by the Nauvoo Library and information can be found on the Nauvoo Public Library website. The Solar System Ambassadors Program of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory offers information and excitement about real missions that explore our solar system. Volunteer ambassadors in communities throughout the country are selected by JPL based on their backgrounds and on their plans for public outreach activities. JPL provides ambassadors with educational materials and training. However, the opinions of Ambassadors are not necessarily those of NASA or JPL. Further information about the Solar System Ambassadors Program is available at http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/ambassador. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif. Pumpkin Walk Events: -Drawing Contest winning pumpkins can be viewed outside the library. -Showing spooky short films at Grandpa John's Theatre from 5-9 PM. -Book Sale at Grandpa John's from 5-9 PM. $3 a bag. Hotspot Devices Now Available at Nauvoo Public Library! Nauvoo Public Library is excited to announce the addition of two hotspot devices to our collection! This means that you can now check out the internet to take home with you for a few days! Likewise the library has two Amazon Kindles available for checkout, which will allow patrons to check out free eBooks from the library system. Patrons must have a current library card in good standing to check out devices. Call the library at 217-453-2707 for more details or to get yourself on the hold list for these devices!
