Illinois State Library

Mission Statement

The mission of the Nauvoo Public Library is to provide materials and services for community residents of all ages for personal enrichment, enjoyment and educational needs. The library is dedicated to providing practical access to all forms of media. Programs will be developed to stimulate children’s interest and appreciation for reading and learning.

Library News

Update: The Nauvoo Public Library will be open normal business hours for curbside service only. However, we will now be allowing patrons inside the building solely for use of our computers. If you need copies, we still highly encourage you to bring the documents to the door or email them to us if you are able for a more contactless experience. Likewise, if you have your own device and are able to access our wifi from your car out front, we would recommend you do so. However, if you have a need of computers and neither of these are an option, you may call and make an appointment to do so. Masks are required for entry. Stay safe, everyone!

                                          Curbside

While the library building itself is still closed to the public, we will begin offering curbside service Monday, June 1st.
What does this mean?

This means that you can once again check out library materials! Interlibrary loan HAS resumed. Please feel free to place holds on items from other libraries.

How does it work?

You can see our entire catalog online by going to nauvoopubliclibrary.com and clicking on “Catalog/My Account” at the top of the page. Here you can search for titles, authors, subjects, etc. By signing in with your library card information (call the library if you do not know your log in information), you can then place a hold on the item(s) you desire.
Alternatively, you can call the library to make your selection. If you do not have a specific title or author in mind, tell your librarians what type of book you are looking for, and they will do their best to find something to meet your needs.
Your librarians will then set aside the books you have selected, bag them for you, and run them out to you when you arrive.
How will I receive my books?

Your librarians will be in the library during normal business hours. Simply pull up front in your car during these times when you are ready to receive your books. Please call in advance to make book selections so we can have them ready for you. Call in if your librarian hasn’t noticed you are out front. 217-453-2707

How long can I keep my books?
During this time, there are no traditional due dates. If we reinstate due dates, we have to reinstate due dates for everyone. We do not want anyone who currently has materials out to feel pressured to use curbside if they do not feel comfortable doing so. We will not be charging late fees during this time. Please be on your honor to return books in a timely fashion.

How do I return books?
If you have curbside returns, please place your materials in a bag to give to your librarian when they come out to the car. Alternatively, books may be returned through the front door slot during times we are closed.

How to stay safe during curbside?
Your librarians will be wearing gloves and masks when they come to your car. We ask that you please wear a mask as well. Any materials that are returned will be quarantined for one week before being available again.

                      Temporary cards for e-books
In other good news, the Illinois State Library has relaxed their definition of “non-resident” during these times solely for the use of e-resources. In other words, this means we can currently give out temporary cards to those living outside city limits, but only for the use of e-books. After we reopen completely and resume business as normal, these cards will become inactive unless the usual non-resident fee is paid. If you are interested in taking advantage of these temporary cards for use of our e-books, please contact the library.

Our weekly virtual Story Time will be on our Facebook page every Wednesday at 10:30 AM.
